Every day on the front near Raqqa, scores of Syrians cross into the Islamic State from the Kurdish controlled north to go shopping, visit the doctor or return from seasonal work in Turkey. The four year-long civil war may have fractured the country beyond recognition, but economic ties still bind it together.
